Rockquiem

Rockquiem is a project by Stefan Wurz for soloists, choirs, orchestras and rock bands. Rockquiem was composed on a commission basis in 2002 by Stefan Wurz, who is a 40-year-old composer from Germany. The work is entirely based on Mozart’s Requiem K626 in D minor.

Rockquiem was conceived by the Czech musician and producer Daniel Landa and by Manfred Schweigkofler, conductor of the “Nuovo Teatro Comunale” of Bolzano. It was composed by Stefan Wurz in 2002 and it was performed for the first time at the Smetana Hall (Obecnì duom) in Prague on the 3rd August 2003.

Mozart’s requiem was based on the funeral mass in Latin. In Rockquiem, the Latin text is entirely observed. The metal style combines with Mozart’s composition and it surprisingly highlights the prophetic tone, dramatizing the meaning of death and the afterlife.
